What a day to be alive! It’s Thursday and let me tell you, there’s a TON going on in and around Morristown. Make sure you check our our Events Countdown section at the bottom of the email.
One day we’ll all thaw out of the teenage digit low temperatures, but that day is not today. Scroll through today’s Scoop and think about warm, sunny, summer days that are only about 150 days away 😉

The Morristown area saw about 4 inches of snow at a minimum last week. We do love one good snowstorm each year…but that’s enough for us. :Waiting for Spring:

Morristown Mayoral Race Takes Shape 📐

Many of us in the area are more than familiar with Tim Dougherty, who has been the Mayor of Morristown for the past four terms, spanning 15 years to date. While we like to stray far from politics here in the Scoop, we stumbled upon an article from June 1st, 2010 when Mayor Dougherty was first sworn in as Mayor. It’s a fascinating read given the unprecedented expansion and growth Morristown has experienced in the past 15 years. Mayor Dougherty yesterday announced his intention to seek a 5th term as Morristown Mayor. On the flip side, Andrea Lekberg has announced her intentions to challenge the incumbent Dougherty in November of 2025.
A Family Tragedy in Morris County 😢
In nearby Roxbury Township, a family lost everything when their house exploded and was left “structurally unsound” due to a gas leak inside their home on Sunday 1/19/25. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident. Firefighters have indicated the cause was due to an improperly sealed natural gas line from the prior home owners. The affected Howey family purchased the house in October 2023. A GoFundMe has been set up by family and friends to help them during this time of transition to replace nearly everything of value they had stored in their home. Please take a look at the GoFundMe page and consider a donation of any amount to help our neighbors.

The Morristown Ciphers - ENTFLA Arena Football Team
The Entertainment Football Association is coming to Morristown! This may be news to everyone reading this newsletter. But it’s actually rather exciting. The ENTFLA is a brand new arena football league that has been formed as a 4 team league (Morristown, NJ, Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and Long Island). Now it’s not just football, it’s not just sport. Here is the value proposition: The Ciphers will have 4 home games this summer, all on Saturdays, hosted at the Mennen Sports Arena. It will be a family oriented atmosphere with a pre and post game tailgate, an inside Arena Football game, followed by a concert. 🎶
🏈 Attendees will have an action packed day designed to rally the community spirit and create memorable Saturdays for friends and family between May and August.
The players on these teams will be local former football players who are playing for the love of the game, and the love of representing their community. 🤟
To learn more about this exciting league and summer activities, visit the NJ Cipher’s website.
